Jochberg is a small town in the Tirol region of Austria, and is close to the popular alpine tourist resort of Kitzbuhel.
With the exception of a small 600mm gauge line at a copper mine no railway ever served Jochberg.
This model represents a fictional branch line that was built as an extension to the 760mm gauge Zell am Zee to Krimml line. Starting at Mittersill which became a junction station, the line climbs rapidly over the Thum Pass, then makes it's way through Jochberg serving the copper mine and the local forrestry and farming industry, then down the valley until reaching Kitzbuhel, and finaly reaching the Hbf where it makes a conection with the standard gauge Giselabahn form Worgl to Schwarzach St Veit.
Today the main bussiness of the line is tourists and timber though there are also still regular goods trains serving the stations and sidings along the line.
Services today include a year round local railcar service, summer only trains for walkers and Cycleist's using loco hauled stock with specialy adapted vans for carrying cycles,Steam hauled Specials, timber trains and local pickup goods trains. |
